What does it mean to be a Chamber Member?
A chamber of commerce is defined as a local association to promote, support, and protect the interests of the business community and members. It is not affiliated with the government, the Better Business Bureau, or operates as a charity. The Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to the promotion and development of our members within the community. Still not sure what it’s all about? Let’s take a dive into what it means to be a chamber member.
As a chamber member, you are supported and represented by an organization who strives to see you succeed in your business and career. Local businesses are members, and they elect a board of directors or executive council to set policy for the chamber. The board or council then hires a President, CEO, or Executive Director, plus staff, run the organization. These staff members help to organize events and create many opportunities for its members to get more involved in the local community. Growing communities are great places to work by providing strong employment opportunities, therefore, a chamber helps all members of a community. Make sense?
By joining a chamber of commerce, you are committing yourself to the betterment of your community. Your membership is like telling your community that you are investing in the success of the area for years to come. Example: if you are an entrepreneur and want other business professionals as well as the community to know who you are and what you do, joining the chamber is the one of the best (and easiest) solutions. You’ll be able to network and collaborate with other members through a variety of opportunities to further the success of your business.
A chamber of commerce wants nothing less than for its members to have positive experiences and become successful. They want to bring its members face-to-face (sometimes literally) with the community so they can share their story, sell their products, and gain more customers. Many chambers do this through sponsorships, networking events, and volunteer opportunities. Although each chamber is run differently, they all have the same goal in mind: to make their community a better place to live, work, and play for everyone. When will you join?
