How did you start out in real estate & starting your own business?

“It was actually my sister’s idea. At the time, she was working at a new real estate office in Ankeny and she told me she thought I would make a good real estate agent. I met with the Broker of the office and he basically told me how hard it is and as I left the office I decided I was up for the challenge.  I decided that I would show up every day at 8AM and would decide how I could market myself and my business. I started cold calling, doing open houses, door knocking and attending as many networking events as possible.

At the time, I had an 8 year-old and 5 year-old and some days I would have to take them with me. Being a wife and mother and learning a new business meant working 10-12 hours a day, which brought many challenges but I was determined to make it.?

Who & what have been your support system over the years?

“First and foremost, my family.  They have always been my biggest supporter.  My involvement in the Chamber and the community was a huge asset for me. I have been a Chamber member for 24 years, joining when I owned a decorating business. Support from the Chamber and community has made a great impact on my business.”

What advice would you give to someone starting a business or wanting to grow their own business?

“The most important thing is networking and getting to know people. Also, be active in your community. The chamber is one of those great resources to help grow your business.   Find your passion and get involved whether it be your kids activities, church, community or networking groups. No matter how you feel — get up, dress up, show up and never give up!”

What inspires you to keep going?

“What inspires me daily is helping people and continuing to make friends. In this business we help people who are first time home buyers, couples downsizing, families that are growing and individuals and families that are facing challenges. I want to be there for them and help them with one of the biggest decisions in their life. It’s all about being the individual they can come to for all their real estate needs.”

What do you love about living in Ankeny?

“I love this community! Giving back to the community brings me joy and I am very passionate about it. I would like the Wiedenman Family Foundation to be the fundraising organization that brings together business owners that will continue to support our foundation and events, like Holiday Ho Ho Home Tour; Fill the Fund; Hugs from Jessie’s Bears; Shop Around the District and, of course, Champagne and Dreams!   The Wiedenman Family Foundation was formed in 2022 to bring these projects and more together, in partnership with the community to create events and raise money for great causes in Ankeny.”
