Celebrate Ankeny presented by Karl Chevrolet was a series of activities that allowed us to safely enjoy some of our favorite parts of Ankeny SummerFest.
“The Ankeny Area Chamber was heartbroken to have to move Ankeny SummerFest to 2021, but we’re excited to be able to bring Celebrate Ankeny to the community this summer,” said Julie Todtz, President & CEO of the Ankeny Area Chamber. “There is no doubt the Ankeny community is strong, resilient and flexible. We are fortunate to be among a community that is supportive through challenging times.”
Celebrate Ankeny featured a fireworks show above Prairie Ridge Pond on Saturday, July 11 beginning at 9:15 p.m. The fireworks were presented by Karl Chevrolet and were choreographed to music that broadcasted on KJJY 92.5 FM. Volunteers handed out Firework Fun Packs sponsored by John Deere Des Moines Works to the first 500 cars. Attendees parked at one of three parking lots near Ankeny SummerFest grounds and watched from within their vehicle or in the parking spot next to their driver’s side. Attendees also parked at Prairie Ridge Middle School and walked to Ankeny SummerFest grounds to sit and enjoy the show. Social distancing and safety measures were in place for people to enjoy the fireworks show responsibly.
Celebrate Ankeny also featured the Taste of Ankeny SummerFest. The community visited area businesses to support Ankeny SummerFest vendors. The first night of Taste of Ankeny SummerFest was Thursday, July 9th. Vendors were at host locations in Ankeny from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
